Why ACCELERATE 2025 matters: The entertainment industry’s path to net zero

Jo Hopwood takes a look at what the latest report from BAFTA abert means for travel sustainability in entertainment and media.

The release of BAFTA albert’s ACCELERATE 2025 report marks apivotal moment for the UK film and TV industry. It’s a clear call to action:the time to act is now – not my words, but albert’s. With reported emissionsfrom productions in 2024 totalling nearly 175,000 tonnes of CO₂e - to theannual footprint of almost 40,000 UK staff - the scale of the challenge isundeniable.

One of the most striking insights from the report is thattravel and transport account for 65% of industry emissions, with flights aloneresponsible for 30%. Road travel is another major contributor, yet only 2% ofcar journeys use electric vehicles. This highlights a critical gap - and anopportunity for innovation.

From measurement to meaningful change

As BAFTA albert Chair Ralph Lee notes, “We need to movepast simple measurement and begin to clearly define what success looks like forsustainable film and TV production.” The report does just that - settingout practical recommendations, training resources, and industry-widecommitments to accelerate progress toward net zero.
