Providing a first-class response during Storm Arwen

SSE, a leading energy company listed in the UK, entrusted us with managing their travel, accommodation, and venue needs almost 12 years ago.

When faced with the largest storm of the decade, Storm Arwen, SSE relied on our 24/7 support to swiftly provide resources for their engineers and workforce amidst widespread power outages affecting over a million homes.

Objectives

During 26th and 27th November, 2021, Storm Arwen unleashed severe winds, causing extensive damage across the UK, particularly in Scotland and Northern England. SSE urgently required overnight accommodation for their teams tasked

with repairing the storm’s aftermath.

Solution

Ensuring SSE’s teams had timely accommodation was paramount. Our consultants collaborated closely with SSE’s Travel team, operating round-the-clock from 26th November for five days. Flexibility was key, with adjustments made to accommodate varying job durations. Bookings were managed online, via email, and through our 24/7 team, spanning numerous locations from north to south and east to west.

Rooms were secured on a dinner, bed, and breakfast basis. To guarantee access to catering, we coordinated with SSE to dispatch catering trucks to remote properties lacking onsite meal services.

We secured accommodations in 62 locations, including major hotel chains and local establishments, reflecting the storm’s impact across rural and urban areas.
