Eurostar are finally launching their new direct route from London to Amsterdam on Wednesday 4th April.

First announced way back in 2013, Eurostar are finally launching their new direct route from London St Pancras to Amsterdam Centraal on Wednesday 4th April, saving business travellers the hassle of trying to find flights from London.

After extensive preparation, a comprehensive programme of testing on the Dutch high-speed network and the building of Eurostar terminals in the dutch capital Amsterdam and Rotterdam, Eurostar’s new route to the Netherlands will start in a couple of weeks with one way Eurostar train tickets available from £260 in Business Premier from st Pancras International.

There will be two trains a day departing at 08.31 and 17.31 respectively and the total journey time is 3 hours 41 minutes for the London-Amsterdam route (3 hours 1 minute to Rotterdam).

Nicolas Petrovic, chief executive of train operator Eurostar, said the Netherlands service heralded a new era in international high-speed rail. “With direct services from the UK through the channel tunnel to the Netherlands, France and Belgium, we are transforming the links between the UK and three of Europe’s top trading nations.”

During the initial period, passengers will travel direct from London to Amsterdam and Rotterdam and on the return journey will connect through Brussels where passport controls and security screening will be carried out. On the Amsterdam-London connection, passengers will travel with Thalys to Brussels Midi where the security checks will be conducted, before boarding a Eurostar to London.

The indirect journey between Amsterdam and London will be a temporary measure whilst the governments in the UK and The Netherlands complete an agreement which will enable passport checks to be conducted on departure in The Netherlands as in other key Eurostar destinations. Realistically this isn’t scheduled to happen until the end of next year.

Rather than booking standard class, the Business Premier service will be available on the new route, perfect for business travellers, . Business Premier customers enjoy 10 minute express check-in, exclusive access to the business lounges as well as delicious meals, designed for the time of day by Raymond Blanc.
